Club History

Whittlesey Athletic Football Club was formed in 2014 as a result of a merger between two long-standing clubs, Coates Athletic (1957) and Whittlesey United (1950).

At the time the clubs merged they both had first teams playing in the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District Football League and a reserve team each as well.
Shortly after the initial merger another local club Whittlesey Blue Star also came on board creating the club that we know today.

Currently the club has 3 Senior Men’s Saturday teams (Thurlow Nunn League – First Division North and PDFL Prem and Div 2), 1 Veterans Team, 1 Senior Ladies team (Cambridgeshire Women’s Premier), 3 Youth Team from U12s to U16s – With a pathway for youth football coming through from Whittlesey Junior Football Club.

Significant investment has been made (and is ongoing) in developing our ground at The Danzen Logistics Stadium with floodlights and a new 50 seated stand the latest additions. We continue to invest in the playing surface and the new lawn-mower and other equipment will hopefully allow this to continue.

The next projects include the desire for an additional set of changing rooms (including officials) which will help us utilise both pitches as often as we can/need to, the desire for a purpose built brick clubhouse allowing us to offer an improved matchday experience for our supporters, improved internal fencing to control/restrict access and movement within the site and lastly and general improvements to the site as a whole.

Our long-term aims and aspirations include a 4G Floodlit pitch, offering an all year round surface for the whole community to use for matches and training and the addition of a MUGA to allow other sports and organisations make use of the space that we have.
